Hinton Healthcare Who’s Who – Dr. Leigh Beamish
Today, May 1, is National Physician’s Day in Canada and we are delighted to be able to feature Dr. Leigh Beamish, one of our family doctors in Hinton.
Dr. Beamish has worked in Hinton for 12 years, and specializes in Medical Education. If you’ve ever met with on of the medical learners (Medical Students or Residents) in Hinton, Dr. Beamish plays a vital role in coordinating their educational experience in Hinton. We are so grateful for the opportunity to showcase Hinton to our medical learners, who are the next generation of physicians.
Our outstanding medical community in Hinton is Dr. Beamish’s favourite thing about practicing in Hinton; “we have the best group of physicians, nurses, medical office assistants, pharmacists and other allied staff around!”
Something that might surprise everyone about Dr. Beamish is that she had never lived in a rural community before coming to Hinton for mandatory training during her residency in 2013. Before that, she had no plans to live rurally!
Now, Dr. Beamish has built a life with family here, and helps provide opportunities for medical learners to see the joy and opportunity that comes with rural living and practice.
Growing up, Dr. Beamish wanted to become a doctor, something that her grandmother had wanted to be. We are so glad that you were able to make that dream come true, and honour your grandmother in closing that circle.
Her favourite hidden gem? Gabby’s Lunchbox at Pine Valley Lodge, “It’s a great place for coffee and to enjoy some winter sun inside”.
Outside of work, one of her favourite activities is scuba diving, something that she’s been doing for 25 years!

Your insight and dedication is highly valued and we thank you for sharing your time with us.
