Hinton Healthcare Who’s Who – Dr. Megan Findlay
Today we celebrate Canadian Women Physicians Day. March 11th was chosen to mark this celebration, as it is the day in 1875 when Dr. Jennie Trout became the first woman licensed to practice medicine in Canada.
What better way to celebrate Canadian Woman Physicians Day than with the first instalment of our new series “Hinton Healthcare Who’s Who”, featuring Dr. Megan Findlay.
Dr. Findlay came to our community 2.5 years ago, and practices medicine in many different areas in Hinton. Not only does she run her family practice, she also provides care in the Emergency department, in long term care, at the cancer clinic, and as a hospitalist at the Healthcare Centre. Dr. Findlay is also one of the doctors in Hinton who practices obstetrics and has been the first person to greet many of our newest Hintonites.
When it comes to working in Hinton, Dr. Findlay credits her wonderful colleagues for creating such a supportive environment.
Her favourite hidden gem in Hinton is Jarvis Lake, a perfect spot for kayaking and paddle boarding in the summer. When she’s not practicing medicine, you might spot her out for a hike or running with her dog!
Our favourite fun fact about Dr. Findlay, is that she wanted to be a family doctor when she grew up. We are so glad your dreams came true!
On this day of celebration for Canadian Woman Physicians, we thank you Dr. Findlay for everything you do for our community. We also thank the many other women practicing medicine in Hinton.
The “Hinton Healthcare Who’s Who” series aims to showcase as many members of the Hinton healthcare community as possible- whether you’re a nurse, unit clerk, paramedic, environmental services staff, doctor, laboratory technician, allied health professional or one of the countless other roles in our extended healthcare community, we want to hear from you.
