Hinton Healthcare Foundation Secures Purchase of the Hinton Medical Clinic

A Major Step Toward a CommunityRun, Sustainable Healthcare Model

Hinton, Alberta – March 13, 2026 — The Hinton Healthcare Foundation (HHF) is pleased to announce the successful purchase of the Hinton Medical Clinic—an achievement made possible through months of dedicated volunteer effort and strong community support.

This milestone marks a turning point for healthcare access in Hinton. In June 2024, the HHF approached the Town of Hinton to seek gap funding after learning the clinic was scheduled to cease operations in July 2024. Immediate action was required to prevent the loss of this essential healthcare service for local residents.

Since then, a volunteer working group—together with the dedicated clinic staff—has worked tirelessly to ensure the continuity of primary care services. Their combined efforts have been instrumental in keeping the clinic’s doors open while long‑term solutions were explored.

With the purchase now finalized, the clinic will transition to being operated by a new not‑for‑profit organization, which will soon be formally registered as Hinton Healthcare Clinic Inc. This model aims to create a sustainable, community‑driven approach to healthcare delivery.

“Securing the clinic ensures that residents of Hinton and surrounding areas will continue to receive the care they rely on,” said representatives from the HHF. “This is a community victory—and a testament to what volunteers, partners, and local leadership can accomplish together.”

The next phase involves establishing a professional board to oversee the operations of the newly formed Hinton Healthcare Clinic Inc. and to build a high-performance business. The model is designed to reduce administrative burdens on physicians, allowing them to focus on practicing medicine rather than running a clinic. The goal is to improve physicians’ work‐life balance, support retention, strengthen local healthcare capacity, and provide an attractive option for doctors seeking a place to practice.

Located near Jasper National Park and serving a diverse regional population, Hinton depends on stable access to primary care. This new framework is expected to relieve pressure on the local medical system and contribute to a more sustainable future for community health services.

The Hinton Healthcare Foundation extends its gratitude to all volunteers, clinic staff, partners, and residents who contributed to this success. Together, we are building a healthier future for Hinton.
